The Funkatorium required close collaboration with Wicked Weed Brewing and Legerton Architecture as we engaged in constant communication and coordination with the City of Asheville to design the Funkatorium’s outdoor patio and bocce court. The outdoor patio expansion provided double the seating capacity of the taproom. Additional design phases of this project included the redesign of the entrance to the southern side of the building, Cultura, which serves new-agrarian cuisine. OLA also assisted in the design of a new beer garden space with an outdoor bar and stage in the previous parking area to the north.

Working in direct collaboration with Wicked Weed Brewing at their main location on Biltmore Avenue in Downtown Asheville, this project presented the opportunity to organize service access for the brewing operation during production hours. The design also addressed the grading and drainage in a way to allow for a safe and enjoyable patron experience while accessing the lower level of the Brewpub. This area was historically used as a vehicular ramp when the building was a car repair shop.
With the updated redesign, Wicked Weed is now better equipped to handle daily brewing operations and also provide a friendlier access experience to the lower level from the outside. This project also included collaboration with Artful Shelter to develop a new shade canopy for the Brewpub’s lower gathering space.
